Growing with God is a day-by-day process. Every day we try to become better people and to grow in our knowledge of the God we serve. We all have weak points, however—there are aspects of life to which we succumb and with which we struggle.

One of these aspects is being easily impressed—impressed by beauty, skill, strength, power, and other attributes of human nature. But God has given us a command in Isaiah 2. In verse 22 He commands, "Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he?" Despite the impressive feats and pleasing attributes of man, God has made it clear that we should not place our ultimate respect in human achievement. What does this mean?

Should we disrespect our fellow man? Should we ignore our neighbor? Should we pay no mind to everyone around us? No. Instead, we should give glory to the God who has made every great and beautiful thing possible.

The strength, beauty, and riches of humanity are gifts from a great God who has taken His time with each and every one of us. Admiration should be given to the Creator of such attributes, not to the possessor. Every human whom the carnal mind deems worthy of admiration is simply a creation of God.

If you find yourself admiring—or even perhaps idolizing—someone or something that seems impressive, quickly remind yourself that such feelings must be redirected to God. Every good and great thing is from HIM!
